Meet the author: Tim O' Brien
Tim O' Brien is an American novelist who is best known for writing memoirs, war stories, and short stories.
Tim was born and raised in Austin, Minnesota until the age of ten, when his family moved to Worthington, also in southern Minnesota. Worthington had a large influence on Tim's imagination and his early development as an author. He graduated from Macalester College in 1968. That same year he was drafted into the United States Army and sent to Vietnam, where he served for 2 years. Upon completing his duty, Tim went to graduate school at Harvard University. In 1973 he published his first book, If I Die in a Combat Zone, Box Me Up and Ship Me Home.
Tim has taught at Texas State University - San Marcos since 1999. He currently lives in central Texas with his wife Meredith and two children, Timmy and Tad.
